Can a Chiropractor Help with Foot Pain?

Your feet deal with hundreds of impacts every day while you’re simply walking around. It’s no surprise that over time many people’s feet tend to start hurting. In fact, foot problems are a thing that 75% of Americans will experience during their lives. Inevitably, you’ll be looking for a way to help your aching feet. While you’re looking for an answer, you may consider chiropractic. But can a chiropractor help with foot pain?

What Causes Foot Pain?

Foot pain is a complicated subject because your feet are filled with bones, tendons, nerves, and muscles. These components are at a higher risk of pain in your feet compared to other places in your body. This is because your feet are constantly striking things like concrete, pavement, and other incredibly hard materials. Anything that slams against concrete will probably start to break down over time. Your feet are also complicated structures and that causes many different issues to occur that lead to foot pain. Some of the more common problems are plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, sprained ankles, arthritis in the feet, and flat feet.

Plantar Fasciitis

When the ligaments that connect your forefoot to your heel ( the plantar fascia) become inflamed,  you’re diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. This causes swelling, inflammation, and pain that’s typically in the heel. It’s common in middle-aged people but can happen to anyone. It’s especially prevalent in people who are constantly on their feet.

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is the overuse of the Achilles heel. If you exercise without proper preparation, like stretching, you may injure your Achilles heel. That comes with pain in the heel, stiffness, and swelling.

Sprained Ankles

Sprained ankles occur when the strong tendons in your ankle stretch too far and tear. Common symptoms of foot problems are pain in the ankle, swelling, ankle instability, swelling, and bruising. Sprained ankles can become a serious problem if they don’t heal correctly.

Inflammation and swelling in your ankles and feet can lead to serious pain. Known as arthritis, this inflammation and pain can be caused by a number of different underlying issues. No matter the reason, arthritis can become so severe that walking becomes difficult.

Flat Feet

While flat feet are most common in children, adults can also be affected. When you have flat feet, your entire foot touches the ground every time you step. Flat feet can be caused by not developing an arch in your feet, but also can be caused by injury or aging.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Chiropractors are experts in finding out exactly what’s giving you pain. Once they figure it out, they can help you overcome your foot pain. The treatments vary depending on what the issue is. Some things, like Achilles tendonitis, are helped with stretches and cautious exercising. Our chiropractors can help facilitate healing in ankle sprains and plantar fasciitis. Chiropractors can help people with flat feet develop arches so they’ll completely lose their pain. They can even help people with arthritis have relief from their pain. Chiropractors can also utilize chiropractic adjustments to ensure your body is balancing the weight across your body correctly.
